Job Description:
The Cell Biology Department is seeking a Cell Fractionation Facilities Coordinator to maintain and supervise the operation of a variety of departmental equipment and instruct faculty, students, postdoctoral fellows and research technicians in the use and operation of all scientific equipment. S/He will independently assess the condition of all departmental equipment and submit recommendations for the repair or replacement of non-functional equipment, and interact with outside vendors to obtain quotes for all equipment purchases.
Responsibilities:
Handle all equipment, emergency repairs and coordinate the transfer of research materials to back-up storage freezers. Prepare emergency procedures and identify internal and external support staff to handle any unforeseen equipment malfunctions in the department.
In charge of audio/visual and videotaping for presentations for numerous seminars.
Check operational fitness of scientific equipment such as centrifuges, forced air shaker, liquid scintillation counter, x-ray developer, freezers and other equipment used for scientific research.
Research the cost of replacing or repairing scientific equipment for the Cell Biology Department to provide the best alternative and most cost effective equipment.
Keeps inventories of Departmental equipment, and manages service contracts
Acts as a liaison to the Engineering Department on problems with equipment and research facilities.
Helps PIs with equipment-related issues.
Helps organize lab moves and renovations.
Participates in accumulating data for publication of experiments requiring cell cycle fractionation or tissue specific cell fractionation.
Prepares samples for cell cycle analysis on FACS Cell Sorter. Supervises use of Gene Gun and may be involved in publications related to these experiments.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor`s Degree with a Science major
3-5 years of related experience
Candidate must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
